AGHAMING PARK PLAN

In 1998 the McKnight Foundation provided the City a $50,000 grant to pay for a site assessment and suitability analysis. The City contracted with GeoSpatial Services to complete the site plan. The project objective was to create a description of the areas unique environmental character in the context of the Upper Mississippi River, identify the significant environmental considerations in facility development, identify educational and community partnership opportunities, develop key facility/park components, identify potential funding sources, and to define the implementation schedule.   Planning, feature formulation, assessment, and other environmental considerations were accomplished through formation of a interdisciplinary community team.  Project planning involved developing historical context, environmental setting (including vegetation and bird surveys), community and educational development, and conceptual park feature development.  Feature development was conducted using Geographic Information Systems to present all park features; trails, observation sites, vegetation, bird information, bathymetric data, and buffer analysis for parking and visitor management infrastructure.  The park plan was completed and delivered to the City in March 1999.

Aghaming Park master plan layout displays trails, overlooks, interpretive facility, landcover, and canoe trails.
